1) What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy (OT) helps children develop the skills they need to participate more autonomously in their everyday lives. OT addresses areas such as fine motor, sensory processing, gross motor, social emotional, self-care, and executive functioning skills. Skill development is mainly achieved through play as that is a child’s main “occupation” or job. In all sessions, the therapist will coach families and caregivers on how to best support the growth and development of the child.
2) How do we start OT sessions?
The first step is to do an evaluation where a therapist will complete assessments and structured observations with your child to assess the need for therapy and to create a tailored treatment plan. If your child has had an OT evaluation completed in the past 6 months, we can use that to determine treatment needs and goals.
3) Do you take insurance?
At this time, we are out of network with all medical insurances, but we can provide you with a superbill upon request to submit to your insurance if you have out of network benefits.
4) Where will OT sessions take place?
All sessions will take place in the child’s natural environment, whether that be at home, in school, or in the community.
